TUSTIN, CA — The future looks bright for Tustin High School, and much of that optimism centers around sophomore quarterback Ayden Edwards. Edwards showcased poise, leadership, and big-play ability as the Tillers knocked off San Clemente, 30-17, in their season opener.
The game didn’t start smoothly for Tustin, who went three-and-out on their opening drive. San Clemente quickly capitalized, marching down the field to take an early 7-0 lead. But the Tillers struck back instantly, as a dazzling kickoff return touchdown tied the game at 7-7. The Tritons added a field goal to go up 10-7, Tustin Striked back with a Field goal them selves making It 10-10, but Edwards and the offense soon found their rhythm.
Midway through the first half, Edwards delivered the first passing touchdown connecting with transfer wideout Hayden Koo on a strike that gave Tustin the lead. Before the half the sophomore signal-caller showed off his touch and composure, threading a beautiful ball between defenders to Brannon Hampton for another score.

With momentum fully on their side, the Tillers sealed the victory later in the game as running back Jeremiah Williams broke free for a touchdown run, putting the game out of reach.
Ayden went onto finish the game throwing for 168 yards, 10/16 with 2 touchdowns on the board and 1 interception.
Edwards and the Tillers have the makings of a team that can make serious noise this season.
