Inglewood, CA – Under the bright lights of SoFi Stadium on Thursday night, the El Modena Vanguards delivered a statement victory, overpowering San Pedro 34-14 in front of hundreds of fans.
After being shut out just a week prior, El Modena wasted no time rewriting the narrative. By halftime, the Vanguards had built a commanding 28-0 lead, thanks to a balanced offensive attack and a defense that smothered the Pirates’ early drives.
Quarterback Ethan Sorenson showcased his versatility, throwing for 137 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a career-high 67 yards on just eight carries. Sorenson’s ability to extend plays kept San Pedro off balance all night. Receiver Arnol Correa contributed in the passing game, collecting 18 receiving yards as one of Sorenson’s go-to targets.

El Modena’s scoring onslaught began with back-to-back rushing touchdowns, followed by two efficient passing strikes before the break. The Vanguards added another passing touchdown in the third quarter to stretch their lead to 34-0, effectively putting the game out of reach.
San Pedro, however, refused to go quietly. The Pirates found some rhythm in the second half, scoring twice through the air, including a successful two-point conversion that trimmed the deficit to 34-14. But the early hole proved too deep to climb out of.

The win boosts El Modena to 2-3 on the season, giving them momentum heading into their October 3 road clash against Trabuco Hills. San Pedro, also now 2-3, will look to regroup when they travel to face a high-powered Laguna Beach squad on September 26.
At SoFi, it was all about El Modena’s response and resilience. After a frustrating outing last week, the Vanguards looked every bit like a team finding its identity—and perhaps a turning point in their season.
Final Score: El Modena 34, San Pedro 14
