Santa Ana, CA — September 13, 2025 — It took big plays, a resilient defense, and a breakout night from their freshman quarterback, but the East Los Angeles College Huskies secured their first win of the season on Saturday, defeating Santa Ana College 35-30 in a high-scoring battle.
Ebnet Sparks the Huskies’ Offense
After a shaky start, freshman quarterback Logan Ebnet settled into a rhythm and became the difference-maker. Ebnet finished the night with 357 passing yards and four touchdown passes, completing 22 of 33 attempts. His ability to stretch the field gave the Huskies their offensive edge.
His favorite target was fellow freshman Da’mari Taylor, who showcased his big-play ability once again. Taylor hauled in five receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns, including a spectacular 57-yard catch-and-run that swung momentum firmly in East LA’s favor.
Freshman running back Bernardo Blanco added balance to the offense with 88 yards on seven carries, highlighted by a 63-yard burst in the fourth quarter that set up the Huskies’ final touchdown drive.

Defensive Resilience
The Husky defense bent but refused to break in critical moments. Nazir Abram anchored the unit with nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, while defensive end David Chukwuemeka added a sack and consistent pressure on Santa Ana’s quarterback.
One of the game’s turning points came in the third quarter when defensive back Travion Baker intercepted a pass in the end zone, preventing the Dons from retaking the lead. Meanwhile, sophomore linebacker Roberto Ceballos continued to impress, racking up seven tackles and bottling up Santa Ana’s ground game.
Santa Ana Keeps It Close
Despite the loss, Santa Ana put up a fierce fight behind quarterback Justin Gil, who threw for 255 yards and a touchdown but was limited to a 19-of-39 passing night under relentless pressure. His favorite target, Damian Gomez, turned in a standout performance with 157 receiving yards and a touchdown, keeping the Dons within striking distance.
Running back Brandon Giron added 42 rushing yards and a score, while Santa Ana capitalized on early Husky miscues to stay in the game. But late in the fourth quarter, ELAC’s defensive stops proved decisive.
Huskies Show Growth
Though Ebnet struggled early, misfiring on four of his first five passes (including an interception), he rebounded to complete 21 of his final 29 attempts. The turnaround highlighted the confidence head coach Bobby Godinez has in his young quarterback.
The win also featured contributions from Jonathan Alexander, whose 58-yard reception helped set up ELAC’s first touchdown, and defensive lineman Larry Thomas, who added eight tackles in the trenches.

Looking Ahead
With the victory, East Los Angeles improves to 1-2 on the season and will look to build on the momentum in their next contest. Santa Ana (0-3) will regroup and aim to bounce back after another narrow defeat.
In a game filled with explosive plays and dramatic swings, the Huskies proved they can finish strong when it matters most — a valuable lesson for a young team still finding its identity.
